Narrative:
While in cruise from sna to sea at FL350 I felt the need for a cigarette. Assuming that my first officer did not like second hand smoke, I asked him if perhaps he did not feel the need to go the bathroom for awhile. He agreed that perhaps he did and while he was gone I smoke a cigarette. My need for a nicotine fix overcame yrs of training and I inadvertently forgot about being only 1 pilot at the controls being required to wear and use an oxygen mask. The time has come to be a non-smoker.

Title: SMOKE OR SMOKING IN COCKPIT. FLC BEHAVIOR UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE COMPLACENCY.
Narrative: WHILE IN CRUISE FROM SNA TO SEA AT FL350 I FELT THE NEED FOR A CIGARETTE. ASSUMING THAT MY FO DID NOT LIKE SECOND HAND SMOKE, I ASKED HIM IF PERHAPS HE DID NOT FEEL THE NEED TO GO THE BATHROOM FOR AWHILE. HE AGREED THAT PERHAPS HE DID AND WHILE HE WAS GONE I SMOKE A CIGARETTE. MY NEED FOR A NICOTINE FIX OVERCAME YRS OF TRAINING AND I INADVERTENTLY FORGOT ABOUT BEING ONLY 1 PLT AT THE CTLS BEING REQUIRED TO WEAR AND USE AN OXYGEN MASK. THE TIME HAS COME TO BE A NON-SMOKER.
