Narrative:
VFR flight from ipt to ack. Approximately 90 mi from destination ATIS broadcast informed IFR conditions. Picked up local IFR clearance. While in VMC conditions cleared for ILS 24, maintain 1700 ft until established. After localizer intercept, began 400 FPM descent. Instrument indications indicated on localizer, on GS. Cleared to land by ack tower. At crossing OM, checked altitude, noticed published altitude for GS intercept to be 1600 ft, altimeter indicated 1000 ft. Tower advised, approach advised to check altitude. I confirmed to tower my aircraft GS was unreliable as it was still indicating on GS. While still in VMC conditions, I elected to divert to marthas vineyard, mvy, and landed with a contact approach. Aircraft is to be repaired at local radio shop.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATC INTERVENED TO ADVISE PLT OF SMA SEL CHK ALT DURING ILS APCH. PLT DETERMINED THAT THE GS WAS GIVING AN ERRONEOUS READING AND DIVERTED TO ANOTHER ARPT WHICH WAS VFR.
Narrative: VFR FLT FROM IPT TO ACK. APPROX 90 MI FROM DEST ATIS BROADCAST INFORMED IFR CONDITIONS. PICKED UP LCL IFR CLRNC. WHILE IN VMC CONDITIONS CLRED FOR ILS 24, MAINTAIN 1700 FT UNTIL ESTABLISHED. AFTER LOC INTERCEPT, BEGAN 400 FPM DSCNT. INST INDICATIONS INDICATED ON LOC, ON GS. CLRED TO LAND BY ACK TWR. AT XING OM, CHKED ALT, NOTICED PUBLISHED ALT FOR GS INTERCEPT TO BE 1600 FT, ALTIMETER INDICATED 1000 FT. TWR ADVISED, APCH ADVISED TO CHK ALT. I CONFIRMED TO TWR MY ACFT GS WAS UNRELIABLE AS IT WAS STILL INDICATING ON GS. WHILE STILL IN VMC CONDITIONS, I ELECTED TO DIVERT TO MARTHAS VINEYARD, MVY, AND LANDED WITH A CONTACT APCH. ACFT IS TO BE REPAIRED AT LCL RADIO SHOP.
