Narrative:
Received WX briefing before flight. No mention of turbulence over las vegas, nv. Flight plan VFR hemet, ca, to ely, nv. Non stop overfly las vegas, nv, TCA at 9500 ft. Contacted nellis approach on 124.95 to fly through MOA. Southwest of las vegas, nv, approximately 25 or 30 NM, encountered severe turbulence and was unable to control aircraft 50-60 percent of time. Declared emergency on 121.50. Broadcast my intentions but did not receive a reply. With great difficulty finally was able to land at north las vegas airport. After landing, discovered my radio was not receiving but was broadcasting. Was unable to look up approach frequency due to severe turbulence. Future flight planning will include all appropriate radio frequencys for route of flight prior to departure. More precise WX reports would help.
