Narrative:
On a 'lifeguard' flight from tri, tn, to agc, PA, I experienced a communication failure while on a VOR approach to runway 5, circle to land runway 28. I acknowledged the VOR clearance from pit approach and started the procedure. On crossing VOR outbound and inbound, I was not able to communicate with approach. Before switching transponder to 'loss communication,' I tried to contact agc tower. (I was inbound and had airport in sight.) I was not able to contact them initially, and I rotated the phone plugs into my intercom system and control panel and was successful in raising tower. I asked permission from tower to return to approach frequency to 'sign off.' he said he would tell the approach controller for me and cleared me to land. Corrective action: I am having my wiring system on my intercom panel checked and repaired.

Title: LOST COM PROC ALTERED.
Narrative: ON A 'LIFEGUARD' FLT FROM TRI, TN, TO AGC, PA, I EXPERIENCED A COM FAILURE WHILE ON A VOR APCH TO RWY 5, CIRCLE TO LAND RWY 28. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE VOR CLRNC FROM PIT APCH AND STARTED THE PROC. ON XING VOR OUTBOUND AND INBOUND, I WAS NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH APCH. BEFORE SWITCHING XPONDER TO 'LOSS COM,' I TRIED TO CONTACT AGC TWR. (I WAS INBOUND AND HAD ARPT IN SIGHT.) I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTACT THEM INITIALLY, AND I ROTATED THE PHONE PLUGS INTO MY INTERCOM SYS AND CTL PANEL AND WAS SUCCESSFUL IN RAISING TWR. I ASKED PERMISSION FROM TWR TO RETURN TO APCH FREQ TO 'SIGN OFF.' HE SAID HE WOULD TELL THE APCH CTLR FOR ME AND CLRED ME TO LAND. CORRECTIVE ACTION: I AM HAVING MY WIRING SYS ON MY INTERCOM PANEL CHKED AND REPAIRED.
