Narrative:
Just prior to V1 speed a 'wheel type' vibration was noted. Appeared to be 'normal' out of balance nose gear. Upon gear retraction the sound/vibration was not like nose gear. Requested check of runway, where tire rubber was found. Consultation with company and gathering of information from flight attendants and passenger continued as we progressed on flight plan toward cvg. When high likelihood of tire damage was determined, a landing at nearest suitable (long, wide, good WX) runway was requested (near mco at the time -- landing completed there). Emergency was declared. Gear lowered and inspected at 7000 ft MSL. No damage visible through gear downlock periscope. Fly-by at 200 ft AGL revealed damaged left main, outboard, tire to observers along runway 18L at mco. No other damage visible. No cockpit abnormal indications during any part of this incident. Only indications were high speed vibration/noise and hot rubber smell on departure. Coordinated with flight attendants continuously during incident. Cabin was prepared for possible evacuate/evacuation on landing. Landing, touchdown and rollout were normal, only slight pull to left was felt by captain. Passenger deplaned normally through aft stairs when buses arrived. Visual inspection after landing revealed a 10 inch hole in trailing edge flap, damage to other parts of wing and gear doors. Inboard tire was undamaged by takeoff and landing. I feel we were well prepared for any eventuality on landing. Flight attendants and passenger knew what was happening and what to expect. A briefing to the senior emergency response person via tower frequency while on extended final insured proper, safe response if fire or other problem occurred. Good cockpit cockpit resource management allowed coverage of all possibilities. Good WX, daylight and lots of time made this situation workable by 2-MAN cockpit crew, but we were busy!

Title: MAIN GEAR TIRE BLOWS ON TKOF. EMER DECLARED FOR LNDG.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO V1 SPD A 'WHEEL TYPE' VIBRATION WAS NOTED. APPEARED TO BE 'NORMAL' OUT OF BAL NOSE GEAR. UPON GEAR RETRACTION THE SOUND/VIBRATION WAS NOT LIKE NOSE GEAR. REQUESTED CHK OF RWY, WHERE TIRE RUBBER WAS FOUND. CONSULTATION WITH COMPANY AND GATHERING OF INFO FROM FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX CONTINUED AS WE PROGRESSED ON FLT PLAN TOWARD CVG. WHEN HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF TIRE DAMAGE WAS DETERMINED, A LNDG AT NEAREST SUITABLE (LONG, WIDE, GOOD WX) RWY WAS REQUESTED (NEAR MCO AT THE TIME -- LNDG COMPLETED THERE). EMER WAS DECLARED. GEAR LOWERED AND INSPECTED AT 7000 FT MSL. NO DAMAGE VISIBLE THROUGH GEAR DOWNLOCK PERISCOPE. FLY-BY AT 200 FT AGL REVEALED DAMAGED L MAIN, OUTBOARD, TIRE TO OBSERVERS ALONG RWY 18L AT MCO. NO OTHER DAMAGE VISIBLE. NO COCKPIT ABNORMAL INDICATIONS DURING ANY PART OF THIS INCIDENT. ONLY INDICATIONS WERE HIGH SPD VIBRATION/NOISE AND HOT RUBBER SMELL ON DEP. COORDINATED WITH FLT ATTENDANTS CONTINUOUSLY DURING INCIDENT. CABIN WAS PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE EVAC ON LNDG. LNDG, TOUCHDOWN AND ROLLOUT WERE NORMAL, ONLY SLIGHT PULL TO L WAS FELT BY CAPT. PAX DEPLANED NORMALLY THROUGH AFT STAIRS WHEN BUSES ARRIVED. VISUAL INSPECTION AFTER LNDG REVEALED A 10 INCH HOLE IN TRAILING EDGE FLAP, DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OF WING AND GEAR DOORS. INBOARD TIRE WAS UNDAMAGED BY TKOF AND LNDG. I FEEL WE WERE WELL PREPARED FOR ANY EVENTUALITY ON LNDG. FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND WHAT TO EXPECT. A BRIEFING TO THE SENIOR EMER RESPONSE PERSON VIA TWR FREQ WHILE ON EXTENDED FINAL INSURED PROPER, SAFE RESPONSE IF FIRE OR OTHER PROB OCCURRED. GOOD COCKPIT COCKPIT RESOURCE MGMNT ALLOWED COVERAGE OF ALL POSSIBILITIES. GOOD WX, DAYLIGHT AND LOTS OF TIME MADE THIS SIT WORKABLE BY 2-MAN COCKPIT CREW, BUT WE WERE BUSY!
