Narrative:
Pilot emergency authority/authorized declared and exercised (far 91.3(B)) to avoid severe thunderstorms while climbing out of atl. ATC assigned heading 070 degrees and 10000 MSL altitude. After several requests to atl departure for heading and or altitude change we had to turn to the north to avoid thunderstorm penetration. As ATC saturation increases flexibility and safety decrease.
