Narrative:
Fireworks displayed not coordinated in class D airspace on left downwind to runway 32. Luckily a cherokee 180 had just left the left closed traffic pattern. This was the second time in 5 days that this has happened. The first time the air traffic manager at mfr was told about it with no apparent results. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that there were no NOTAMS issued for fire works in the air traffic area or did his tower manager issue any written notice to him or other controllers on duty during the time of the 2 nightly instances. He believes since the fire works were definitely within the air traffic area and above 1000 ft AGL, it created a safety hazard and wants to prevent another future instance. Therefore, he believes the fair board should be made aware of this lack of coordination via the airport and tower mgrs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FIRE WORKS DISPLAY IN AN ARPT TFC CTL (CLASS D) AIRSPACE WITHOUT COORD WITH TWR.
Narrative: FIREWORKS DISPLAYED NOT COORDINATED IN CLASS D AIRSPACE ON L DOWNWIND TO RWY 32. LUCKILY A CHEROKEE 180 HAD JUST LEFT THE L CLOSED TFC PATTERN. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN 5 DAYS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME THE AIR TFC MGR AT MFR WAS TOLD ABOUT IT WITH NO APPARENT RESULTS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THERE WERE NO NOTAMS ISSUED FOR FIRE WORKS IN THE ATA OR DID HIS TWR MGR ISSUE ANY WRITTEN NOTICE TO HIM OR OTHER CTLRS ON DUTY DURING THE TIME OF THE 2 NIGHTLY INSTANCES. HE BELIEVES SINCE THE FIRE WORKS WERE DEFINITELY WITHIN THE ATA AND ABOVE 1000 FT AGL, IT CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD AND WANTS TO PREVENT ANOTHER FUTURE INSTANCE. THEREFORE, HE BELIEVES THE FAIR BOARD SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS LACK OF COORD VIA THE ARPT AND TWR MGRS.
