Narrative:
While on the ground at grr a combination of events allowed an overheating source of air into the interior of a dc-9- 31. The overheating air warped plastic overbins. The heat-warped doors would not stay closed and were taped shut per maintenance instructions after inspection by maintenance personnel and company maintenance coordinators. With all items written up by the maintenance personnel were written off by maintenance after noting and deferred. Preflight revealed the warped plastic interior. All areas in question were not safety of flight items. Apparently, the APU through a failure of valves and sensors allowed the air to enter the interior. The combination unknown at this time. The flight was uneventful, grr to stl as flight xx on air carrier xx jul/94.

Title: THROUGH A MALFUNCTION IN THE APU BLEED VALVES OVERHEATED AIR DAMAGED THE CABIN OVERHEAD WARPING DOORS. MAINT TAPED CLOSED THE DOORS THAT WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED AND SIGNED OFF OR DEFERRED THE PROBS AND RELEASED THE ACFT AS AIRWORTHY.
