Narrative:
VFR cross country cxl-bur. Using flight following and controled by first ontario controller after being handed off by ZLA. Cessna citation passed approximately 1/2 mi to right on reciprocal heading to me (130 degrees) climbing out in opposite direction. As citation passed abeam my starboard wing, controller called me and said 'I'm having trouble receiving your transponder, squawk 1200 ft, radar services terminated--contact next controller in 10 mi.' this has happened to me before where conflict occurred, ATC immediately suspends flight following. I called next controller immediately to re-establish flight following. There was nothing wrong with transponder.
