Narrative:

In cruise, FL310, in high cloud cover, WX radar on , seat belt sign on, we encountered heavy to moderate turbulence. 3 passenger received injury of a minor degree and flight attendant reported a neck injury. Radar showed light green return and we had turned to avoid it when we got a good jolt. What we hit, I think, was the top of a build-up not displayed on radar. It lasted no longer than a few seconds and we were in the clear. This incident probably was not preventable, certainly had we seen the WX we would have avoided it.
