Narrative:
An FAA representative examined the aircraft and engine logbooks on my cessna 140, they found that during the period of 12/xx/93 through 12/xx/93 I had made entries that in their opinion were illegal and thus rendered the aircraft not airworthy. These entries involved legal pilot -- performed maintenance entries such as oil changes and ELT batteries. However, I had inadvertently not put my pilot certificate number on the entries. Also I had made entries referring to 'installing' a LORAN when I had, in fact, 'inserted' it in its appropriate rack on the instrument panel. Finally I had performed a non-mandatory test of an ignition switch described in a service bulletin. Since it was not a required airworthiness directive, I incorrectly assumed I could do so. I did not knowingly or intentionally perform illegal maintenance on my airplane. Thus I did not realize that I was operating an aircraft that this FAA official deems 'unairworthy.'

Title: RPTR MAKES LOGBOOK ENTRIES WHICH FAA DEEMS ILLEGAL, THUS ACFT NOT AIRWORTHY.
Narrative: AN FAA REPRESENTATIVE EXAMINED THE ACFT AND ENG LOGBOOKS ON MY CESSNA 140, THEY FOUND THAT DURING THE PERIOD OF 12/XX/93 THROUGH 12/XX/93 I HAD MADE ENTRIES THAT IN THEIR OPINION WERE ILLEGAL AND THUS RENDERED THE ACFT NOT AIRWORTHY. THESE ENTRIES INVOLVED LEGAL PLT -- PERFORMED MAINT ENTRIES SUCH AS OIL CHANGES AND ELT BATTERIES. HOWEVER, I HAD INADVERTENTLY NOT PUT MY PLT CERTIFICATE NUMBER ON THE ENTRIES. ALSO I HAD MADE ENTRIES REFERRING TO 'INSTALLING' A LORAN WHEN I HAD, IN FACT, 'INSERTED' IT IN ITS APPROPRIATE RACK ON THE INST PANEL. FINALLY I HAD PERFORMED A NON-MANDATORY TEST OF AN IGNITION SWITCH DESCRIBED IN A SVC BULLETIN. SINCE IT WAS NOT A REQUIRED AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE, I INCORRECTLY ASSUMED I COULD DO SO. I DID NOT KNOWINGLY OR INTENTIONALLY PERFORM ILLEGAL MAINT ON MY AIRPLANE. THUS I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I WAS OPERATING AN ACFT THAT THIS FAA OFFICIAL DEEMS 'UNAIRWORTHY.'
