Narrative:
I was cleared for takeoff on runway 1. I started to take off on runway 32. I aborted takeoff due to engine problem. I realized I had made a mistake on which runway to takeoff on. (Coincidence.) tower and ground must have thought I aborted because I was on the wrong runway, but I aborted for engine problem. I didn't realize I was on the wrong runway until I taxied off. Tower and ground never said a word about it. I realized my stupid mistake and I am grateful that they didn't chew me out on the radio -- I knew I had made a mistake. I had just got the aircraft back, I had 10 cylinders replaced and this was my first flight after engine work. I was preoccupied with the engines (no excuse) when I started my takeoff roll on the wrong runway. A factor may have been the geometry of intersecting runways at starting point of takeoff roll.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CORPORATE PLT DEPARTS ON WRONG RWY. TKOF ABORTED DUE TO ENG PROBS.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 1. I STARTED TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 32. I ABORTED TKOF DUE TO ENG PROB. I REALIZED I HAD MADE A MISTAKE ON WHICH RWY TO TKOF ON. (COINCIDENCE.) TWR AND GND MUST HAVE THOUGHT I ABORTED BECAUSE I WAS ON THE WRONG RWY, BUT I ABORTED FOR ENG PROB. I DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS ON THE WRONG RWY UNTIL I TAXIED OFF. TWR AND GND NEVER SAID A WORD ABOUT IT. I REALIZED MY STUPID MISTAKE AND I AM GRATEFUL THAT THEY DIDN'T CHEW ME OUT ON THE RADIO -- I KNEW I HAD MADE A MISTAKE. I HAD JUST GOT THE ACFT BACK, I HAD 10 CYLINDERS REPLACED AND THIS WAS MY FIRST FLT AFTER ENG WORK. I WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH THE ENGS (NO EXCUSE) WHEN I STARTED MY TKOF ROLL ON THE WRONG RWY. A FACTOR MAY HAVE BEEN THE GEOMETRY OF INTERSECTING RWYS AT STARTING POINT OF TKOF ROLL.
