Narrative:

As I approached the airfield to land, I checked the chart to see what type of airspace existed at this location and found a magenta colored control zone (class east airspace) to be depicted. Believing that the airspace only went down to 700 ft AGL, I continued in and landed without obtaining a special VFR clearance. I also departed in a similar way. During a discussion with fellow pilots later it was pointed out to me that I had violated airspace and that this would be considered an airspace incursion. This problem arose due to my unfamiliarity with the new airspace types and the assumption in my part that the magenta color still depicted controled airspace that begins at 700 ft AGL. I believe that the corrective action for this problem is to become better/familiar with the new airspace and it's associated depiction on the charts.

Narrative: AS I APCHED THE AIRFIELD TO LAND, I CHKED THE CHART TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF AIRSPACE EXISTED AT THIS LOCATION AND FOUND A MAGENTA COLORED CTL ZONE (CLASS E AIRSPACE) TO BE DEPICTED. BELIEVING THAT THE AIRSPACE ONLY WENT DOWN TO 700 FT AGL, I CONTINUED IN AND LANDED WITHOUT OBTAINING A SPECIAL VFR CLRNC. I ALSO DEPARTED IN A SIMILAR WAY. DURING A DISCUSSION WITH FELLOW PLTS LATER IT WAS POINTED OUT TO ME THAT I HAD VIOLATED AIRSPACE AND THAT THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED AN AIRSPACE INCURSION. THIS PROB AROSE DUE TO MY UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE NEW AIRSPACE TYPES AND THE ASSUMPTION IN MY PART THAT THE MAGENTA COLOR STILL DEPICTED CTLED AIRSPACE THAT BEGINS AT 700 FT AGL. I BELIEVE THAT THE CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR THIS PROB IS TO BECOME BETTER/FAMILIAR WITH THE NEW AIRSPACE AND IT'S ASSOCIATED DEPICTION ON THE CHARTS.
