Narrative:
During crosswind landing, aircraft touched down on centerline, bounced and skipped severely to the right, breaking a runway landing light before coming to a complete stop on the grass surface next to the runway. Due to a strong crosswind (90 degrees to the landing runway) and failure to add additional left aileron into the wind once the aircraft bounces may have caused the aircraft to drift severely to the right off the runway. I feel more practice in performing crosswind lndgs is the best way of correcting or preventing a situation like this from reoccurring.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA MAKING XWIND LNDG HAS LOSS OF ACFT CTL, HITS RWY LIGHT.
Narrative: DURING XWIND LNDG, ACFT TOUCHED DOWN ON CTRLINE, BOUNCED AND SKIPPED SEVERELY TO THE R, BREAKING A RWY LNDG LIGHT BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE GRASS SURFACE NEXT TO THE RWY. DUE TO A STRONG XWIND (90 DEGS TO THE LNDG RWY) AND FAILURE TO ADD ADDITIONAL L AILERON INTO THE WIND ONCE THE ACFT BOUNCES MAY HAVE CAUSED THE ACFT TO DRIFT SEVERELY TO THE R OFF THE RWY. I FEEL MORE PRACTICE IN PERFORMING XWIND LNDGS IS THE BEST WAY OF CORRECTING OR PREVENTING A SIT LIKE THIS FROM REOCCURRING.
