Narrative:
The intended flight was a VFR flight out of hagerstown, md, with a friend in his piper comanche 250. When I arrived at the airport at X am, he informed me that he had completed the preflight walk around inspection and was ready for the flight with full fuel tanks. When boarding the aircraft, he insisted I occupy the left seat, which I did. While in the #2 position for takeoff, he realized he had not removed the pitot cover. I taxied the airplane clear of the active taxiway so as not to block other aircraft waiting for takeoff. The owner got out of the aircraft through right and only cabin door. He circled around the nose of the aircraft, walking too close to the turning propeller, and it struck him on his left arm between the wrist and the elbow, also very lightly grazing his left ear. His ear required no medical attention. His arm was x-rayed and no broken or fractured bone were found. The arm required several stitches, on 2 puncture wounds, and a severed artery. His hospital stay was from XA45 am to around XD30 pm.
