Narrative:

We were on an FAA route check. As we taxed and completed our checklists, I requested a reduced power setting as SOP for our operation. The first officer pulled a figure incorrectly from our performance manual and we used it. The FAA inspector informed us of an error at our destination. The error was a simple oversight by the first officer. It should have been 98 percent instead of 89 percent. I may have been able to prevent this by reviewing the reduced power procedure with the first officer before our trip. Suggest emphasizing with the training department how important accuracy is if reduced power takeoffs are performed.
