Narrative:

I was landing at the ohio state airport on oct/xx/94 at opportunity XX30 pm in the afternoon. I had contacted the tower and was given the usual instructions to proceed to the intersection of the scioto river and the outerbelt I-270, and to contact the tower again when reaching this point. And, for the first time ever when landing at osu, I was given a squawk code which did cause some confusion or I was not expecting this. After reaching the intersection of the river and outerbelt I again contacted the tower and was advised to land on what I thought was runway 9R which is the primary runway at osu. With what I thought to be a clearance to land, I proceeded to runway 9R in the usual manner. I do not recall any other communication from the tower until I was on very short final, at this time I noticed the shadow of a plane which was flying over the top of me. I am not sure it was considered to be a near miss as it appeared that there was 200-300 ft between the 2 aircraft. Also at this time the tower came back and told me that I had been cleared for runway 9L and not runway 9R. I landed without incident, the other aircraft made a go around and also landed without any problem. Upon switching to the ground frequency, I was advised to contact the tower by phone which I immediately did. At this point I am still confused about what happened. I have made many lndgs at osu and understand the type of traffic that regularly into and out of this airport. I feel that I was monitoring the tower frequency in the usual manner and trying to understand what was occurring with other traffic that day, although I do not recall hearing communication with the other access involved in this incident. If I was given clearance in runway 9L, I must have mistaken the clearance to be for runway 9R which is the usual procedure. How I misunderstood the tower instruction is something I am unable to explain. The ATIS report indicated runway 9R in use, possible at this point. I just became programmed for this runway.

Title: PVT PLT OF SMA APCHS AND LANDS WRONG RWY.

Narrative: I WAS LNDG AT THE OHIO STATE ARPT ON OCT/XX/94 AT OPPORTUNITY XX30 PM IN THE AFTERNOON. I HAD CONTACTED THE TWR AND WAS GIVEN THE USUAL INSTRUCTIONS TO PROCEED TO THE INTXN OF THE SCIOTO RIVER AND THE OUTERBELT I-270, AND TO CONTACT THE TWR AGAIN WHEN REACHING THIS POINT. AND, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WHEN LNDG AT OSU, I WAS GIVEN A SQUAWK CODE WHICH DID CAUSE SOME CONFUSION OR I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS. AFTER REACHING THE INTXN OF THE RIVER AND OUTERBELT I AGAIN CONTACTED THE TWR AND WAS ADVISED TO LAND ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS RWY 9R WHICH IS THE PRIMARY RWY AT OSU. WITH WHAT I THOUGHT TO BE A CLRNC TO LAND, I PROCEEDED TO RWY 9R IN THE USUAL MANNER. I DO NOT RECALL ANY OTHER COM FROM THE TWR UNTIL I WAS ON VERY SHORT FINAL, AT THIS TIME I NOTICED THE SHADOW OF A PLANE WHICH WAS FLYING OVER THE TOP OF ME. I AM NOT SURE IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE A NEAR MISS AS IT APPEARED THAT THERE WAS 200-300 FT BTWN THE 2 ACFT. ALSO AT THIS TIME THE TWR CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT I HAD BEEN CLRED FOR RWY 9L AND NOT RWY 9R. I LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, THE OTHER ACFT MADE A GAR AND ALSO LANDED WITHOUT ANY PROB. UPON SWITCHING TO THE GND FREQ, I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT THE TWR BY PHONE WHICH I IMMEDIATELY DID. AT THIS POINT I AM STILL CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. I HAVE MADE MANY LNDGS AT OSU AND UNDERSTAND THE TYPE OF TFC THAT REGULARLY INTO AND OUT OF THIS ARPT. I FEEL THAT I WAS MONITORING THE TWR FREQ IN THE USUAL MANNER AND TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS OCCURRING WITH OTHER TFC THAT DAY, ALTHOUGH I DO NOT RECALL HEARING COM WITH THE OTHER ACCESS INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT. IF I WAS GIVEN CLRNC IN RWY 9L, I MUST HAVE MISTAKEN THE CLRNC TO BE FOR RWY 9R WHICH IS THE USUAL PROC. HOW I MISUNDERSTOOD THE TWR INSTRUCTION IS SOMETHING I AM UNABLE TO EXPLAIN. THE ATIS RPT INDICATED RWY 9R IN USE, POSSIBLE AT THIS POINT. I JUST BECAME PROGRAMMED FOR THIS RWY.
