Narrative:
After normal start, taxi, on takeoff roll approaching V1, first officer flying, the #1 engine compressor stalled, 'banged,' lost thrust and rolled back to idle. Takeoff aborted by captain. Cleared runway, checklists accomplished and no further problems noted, returned to gate.
