Narrative:
After installing a new APU on aircraft, I noticed a large bolt lying on the bed of the lift. I commented to my fellow workers that it did not seem part of the APU. Then I forgot about the bolt. At our shift end, we discussed with early grave as to the function of the bolt. Looking at the maintenance manual, we saw that it was a safety bolt to the right aft mount. We called down line maintenance to have the bolt installed. I did not look at the maintenance manual to prevent occurrence. From now on I will print my copy of work being done and read before and after job. Supplemental information from acn 288027: I was given no turnover because the crew that removed APU had gone home. There were parts all over. Some from generator removal, some from APU. During installation, the supervisor kept checking on us and asking how much longer it was scheduled on a revenue flight. The bolt is a secondary mount bolt and it didn't get installed. Review of the maintenance manual calls for installing the bolt and references a picture. We didn't have that picture in our paperwork that the previous shift printed.
