Narrative:
I taxied out of the FBO at about XA05. After being cleared to taxi to the runway, picked up IFR clearance. After receiving takeoff clearance, started taxi to the runway. On the perpendicular taxiway to the runway, the left brake froze up, turning the aircraft abruptly to the left. Full right rudder and brake were applied. This straightened the aircraft out, but not before the left main tire was well into the soft shoulder.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BRAKE FAILURE ON AN MDT RESULTED IN THE PLT LOSING CTL OF THE ACFT AND GOING OFF THE SIDE OF THE TXWY.
Narrative: I TAXIED OUT OF THE FBO AT ABOUT XA05. AFTER BEING CLRED TO TAXI TO THE RWY, PICKED UP IFR CLRNC. AFTER RECEIVING TKOF CLRNC, STARTED TAXI TO THE RWY. ON THE PERPENDICULAR TXWY TO THE RWY, THE L BRAKE FROZE UP, TURNING THE ACFT ABRUPTLY TO THE L. FULL R RUDDER AND BRAKE WERE APPLIED. THIS STRAIGHTENED THE ACFT OUT, BUT NOT BEFORE THE L MAIN TIRE WAS WELL INTO THE SOFT SHOULDER.
