Narrative:
Center assigned us a 360 degree heading and climb to FL360. Climbing out of FL250 the controller said, 'amend your altitude to FL240.' then, in a rushed voice, told us 'turn immediately to 270 degrees, you were assigned FL240,' and gave us traffic. It is unclr whether the controller made an error, or that we may have read back the incorrect altitude or dialed in the incorrect altitude. Both crew members are fairly certain that we were not at fault.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC WAS ASSIGNED A RADAR VECTOR DURING THEIR CLB TO FL260 AND AS THEY LEFT FL250 ATC AMENDED THEIR ALT TO FL240 DUE TO CONFLICTING TFC.
Narrative: CTR ASSIGNED US A 360 DEG HDG AND CLB TO FL360. CLBING OUT OF FL250 THE CTLR SAID, 'AMEND YOUR ALT TO FL240.' THEN, IN A RUSHED VOICE, TOLD US 'TURN IMMEDIATELY TO 270 DEGS, YOU WERE ASSIGNED FL240,' AND GAVE US TFC. IT IS UNCLR WHETHER THE CTLR MADE AN ERROR, OR THAT WE MAY HAVE READ BACK THE INCORRECT ALT OR DIALED IN THE INCORRECT ALT. BOTH CREW MEMBERS ARE FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT WE WERE NOT AT FAULT.
