Narrative:

After pushback, ewr flight X, ewr direct madrid, spain. At XA38 local, had been cleared across active runway 4L at taxiway G. Told that departing air carrier X flight would 'hold in position' runway 4L. As we started across runway 4L, first officer noted air carrier X flight 'on the roll,' called this out. Captain had been told twice to 'expedite,' but disregarded, being involved in 1-MAN job action against company, captain applied additional power. Flight evidently told to abort takeoff.
