Narrative:
There were reports of severe ice through 10000 ft at cvg. I was given such a report prior to takeoff, but no specific time or location. After climbing through about 8000-9000 ft, we were in and out of clouds so we decided to climb on up, thinking we could get on top and clear of ice. We got on top with only going through light to moderate rime ice. Departure questioned our climb through 10000 ft 'receiving the report.'
