Narrative:

I was flying west through the mobile area using interstate 10 for reference in navigating. Sky conditions were clear but hazy and smoky due to ground fires. Also, looking into the sun was a factor. I thought that I had remained clear of the mobile arsa, but upon landing in hammond, la, I was told to call mobile approach and they said that I had come within 10 mi of the airport, but there was no conflict of traffic. This could have been avoided if I had better communicated with the facilities involved, which I plan to do in the future.
