Narrative:
Air carrier X left base for runway 36L ILS dfw. About to level at 3000 ft saw traffic on TCASII yellow diamond 500 ft below and climbing. Got an RA to monitor vertical speed for level flight and complied. Got a climb advisory a few seconds later for 2000 FPM. Once again complied and reached approximately 3800 ft before clear of conflict and descended back to 3000 ft. ATC said we had lost separation on an aircraft at 4500 ft on another approach. ATC saw no other aircraft except a VFR non mode C in a traffic pattern at arlington, which was the area where the incident occurred. This is the first time I have had TCASII give me what appears to have been false data and guidance. Supplemental information from acn 294839: ILS runway 36L dfw in IMC 3000 ft. Received TA/RA to climb at 2000 FPM to 3800 ft. Conflict resolved. Returned to 3000 ft. Advised ATC and continued approach. Apparently, touch and go aircraft at arlington, tx, triggered the RA. Solution? Modify software for TCASII or different approach altitudes for IFR dfw when arlington is VFR or touch and go in the pattern.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X POSSIBLE FALSE TCASII TA RA HAD LTSS WITH ACFT ON APCH TO MULTIPLE RWY OP ON ANOTHER APCH.
Narrative: ACR X L BASE FOR RWY 36L ILS DFW. ABOUT TO LEVEL AT 3000 FT SAW TFC ON TCASII YELLOW DIAMOND 500 FT BELOW AND CLBING. GOT AN RA TO MONITOR VERT SPD FOR LEVEL FLT AND COMPLIED. GOT A CLB ADVISORY A FEW SECONDS LATER FOR 2000 FPM. ONCE AGAIN COMPLIED AND REACHED APPROX 3800 FT BEFORE CLR OF CONFLICT AND DSNDED BACK TO 3000 FT. ATC SAID WE HAD LOST SEPARATION ON AN ACFT AT 4500 FT ON ANOTHER APCH. ATC SAW NO OTHER ACFT EXCEPT A VFR NON MODE C IN A TFC PATTERN AT ARLINGTON, WHICH WAS THE AREA WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD TCASII GIVE ME WHAT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN FALSE DATA AND GUIDANCE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 294839: ILS RWY 36L DFW IN IMC 3000 FT. RECEIVED TA/RA TO CLB AT 2000 FPM TO 3800 FT. CONFLICT RESOLVED. RETURNED TO 3000 FT. ADVISED ATC AND CONTINUED APCH. APPARENTLY, TOUCH AND GO ACFT AT ARLINGTON, TX, TRIGGERED THE RA. SOLUTION? MODIFY SOFTWARE FOR TCASII OR DIFFERENT APCH ALTS FOR IFR DFW WHEN ARLINGTON IS VFR OR TOUCH AND GO IN THE PATTERN.
