Narrative:
Approaching sjc and talking to bay approach on frequency 121.3. The controller told us to expect right traffic for runway 30R. Upon first contact we told the tower that we would make an overhead approach for a left downwind for runway 29. The tower never acknowledged the overhead so we flew right downwind for runway 30R. The tower instructed us to turn base for runway 30R or cross behind an md-80 on final for runway 30L and land on runway 29. Because of clutter on the frequency we heard turn base for runway 29. When the confusion was finally realized we made a steep turn to the right and landed on runway 30R. Our flight path came over the centerline of runway 30L with the md-80 1000 ft below us and 500 ft behind. There was at no time a collision hazard but our aircraft did fly into the final approach of runway 30L.

Title: CORP ACFT OVERSHOOTS FINAL APCH COURSE FOR PARALLEL RWY IN CLOSE PROX OF ACR ON APCH.
Narrative: APCHING SJC AND TALKING TO BAY APCH ON FREQ 121.3. THE CTLR TOLD US TO EXPECT R TFC FOR RWY 30R. UPON FIRST CONTACT WE TOLD THE TWR THAT WE WOULD MAKE AN OVERHEAD APCH FOR A L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 29. THE TWR NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE OVERHEAD SO WE FLEW R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 30R. THE TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN BASE FOR RWY 30R OR CROSS BEHIND AN MD-80 ON FINAL FOR RWY 30L AND LAND ON RWY 29. BECAUSE OF CLUTTER ON THE FREQ WE HEARD TURN BASE FOR RWY 29. WHEN THE CONFUSION WAS FINALLY REALIZED WE MADE A STEEP TURN TO THE R AND LANDED ON RWY 30R. OUR FLT PATH CAME OVER THE CTRLINE OF RWY 30L WITH THE MD-80 1000 FT BELOW US AND 500 FT BEHIND. THERE WAS AT NO TIME A COLLISION HAZARD BUT OUR ACFT DID FLY INTO THE FINAL APCH OF RWY 30L.
