Narrative:

As PIC, I fly this route about 4 times a week which gives way to complacency. The first officer, however, was a reserve and doesn't usually fly this route between gso and iad. The first officer was flying while I was navigating. Somehow I managed to get 1 VOR ahead of our actual position. I had idented sbv but was looking at our STAR, the coate 3, which has a 031 degree outbound of fak so I told the first officer to intercept the 031 degree radial. He, being unfamiliar with the route, did not question the course. The correct course, however, out of sbv is the 063 degree radial. Center asked us our cleared route to make sure we knew where we were supposed to be heading since we were off by 32 degrees. We confirmed our route and corrected to the right course. Lesson learned. It doesn't hurt to double-check what you are looking at and where you are supposed to be going.

Title: ACR X NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC FLEW WRONG AIRWAY. PLTDEV.

Narrative: AS PIC, I FLY THIS RTE ABOUT 4 TIMES A WK WHICH GIVES WAY TO COMPLACENCY. THE FO, HOWEVER, WAS A RESERVE AND DOESN'T USUALLY FLY THIS RTE BTWN GSO AND IAD. THE FO WAS FLYING WHILE I WAS NAVING. SOMEHOW I MANAGED TO GET 1 VOR AHEAD OF OUR ACTUAL POS. I HAD IDENTED SBV BUT WAS LOOKING AT OUR STAR, THE COATE 3, WHICH HAS A 031 DEG OUTBOUND OF FAK SO I TOLD THE FO TO INTERCEPT THE 031 DEG RADIAL. HE, BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH THE RTE, DID NOT QUESTION THE COURSE. THE CORRECT COURSE, HOWEVER, OUT OF SBV IS THE 063 DEG RADIAL. CTR ASKED US OUR CLRED RTE TO MAKE SURE WE KNEW WHERE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE HDG SINCE WE WERE OFF BY 32 DEGS. WE CONFIRMED OUR RTE AND CORRECTED TO THE RIGHT COURSE. LESSON LEARNED. IT DOESN'T HURT TO DOUBLE-CHK WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT AND WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOING.
