Narrative:

Flying for FBO with a verbal 'ok' in the airworthy condition of skymaster. Departed crq, ca, to check the trim on that aircraft, and to check out all aspects of the aircraft per mr X. After my air work I decided to check out the localizer frequency (111.7) at myf to see if we had reception. After landing I departed myf, ca, and had an engine failure in the rear engine just after takeoff. I then told the tower and returned to the field safely. The tower declared an emergency. After reviewing the aircraft documents I found the experimental certificate was 7 days expired. And the operating limitations did not have myf as an airport of use. (The engine failed. I should have all documents prior to takeoff).
