Narrative:
Small aircraft X being radar vectored for runway 16R ILS at vny. Approach controller stated 'TA 12 O'clock, 1/2 mi opposite direction, same altitude.' we turned sharply to the right but never saw the other aircraft. About 10 seconds later approach said traffic no factor. I don't know why the controller didn't notice the other traffic or give us a warning when it was further away than just 1/2 mi!

ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER APCH SAID TFC NO FACTOR. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE CTLR DIDN'T NOTICE THE OTHER TFC OR GIVE US A WARNING WHEN IT WAS FURTHER AWAY THAN JUST 1/2 MI!
