Narrative:
While in cruise flight, egt on #2 engine began rising. Retarding the power lever had no effect on reducing egt or other engine parameters. #2 engine began surging unctlably and we elected to shut it down. Following company in-flight emergency procedures and utilizing the emergency checklist, the engine was secured. Flight continued to san antonio after an emergency was declared with ATC. Landing was conducted without incident. By properly following company emergency procedures, the checklist, and utilizing all available resources, including ATC, cockpit resource management and company maintenance, a safe landing was made without causing undue problems.
