Narrative:
Flying the 'hornet 5 SID.' read the SID 2 times and briefed the departure. Reviewed the turn out and DME restr again just prior to takeoff. Never saw the 250 KTS restr. Out of 10000 ft, accelerated to climb speed. Approximately 20 NM north clt, departure controller asked if we'd been given a speed restr. We checked the pre departure clearance and said no. He made a call, then asked if we had the hornet 5 SID. We checked the SID and saw the note above the runway specific notes 'takeoff all runway all aircraft: do not exceed 250 KTS till advised by ATC.' obviously I should have caught the speed restr. I didn't think the captain reviewed the SID himself, but rather relied on my briefing. 250 KTS restr seem to catch me by surprise even when I know about them (ie, the captain saying 'remember we're restricted to 250 KTS' as I start to accelerate past 250 KTS).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AIRSPD VIOLATION.
Narrative: FLYING THE 'HORNET 5 SID.' READ THE SID 2 TIMES AND BRIEFED THE DEP. REVIEWED THE TURN OUT AND DME RESTR AGAIN JUST PRIOR TO TKOF. NEVER SAW THE 250 KTS RESTR. OUT OF 10000 FT, ACCELERATED TO CLB SPD. APPROX 20 NM N CLT, DEP CTLR ASKED IF WE'D BEEN GIVEN A SPD RESTR. WE CHKED THE PDC AND SAID NO. HE MADE A CALL, THEN ASKED IF WE HAD THE HORNET 5 SID. WE CHKED THE SID AND SAW THE NOTE ABOVE THE RWY SPECIFIC NOTES 'TKOF ALL RWY ALL ACFT: DO NOT EXCEED 250 KTS TILL ADVISED BY ATC.' OBVIOUSLY I SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE SPD RESTR. I DIDN'T THINK THE CAPT REVIEWED THE SID HIMSELF, BUT RATHER RELIED ON MY BRIEFING. 250 KTS RESTR SEEM TO CATCH ME BY SURPRISE EVEN WHEN I KNOW ABOUT THEM (IE, THE CAPT SAYING 'REMEMBER WE'RE RESTRICTED TO 250 KTS' AS I START TO ACCELERATE PAST 250 KTS).
