Narrative:
On approach into ewr, put landing gear down. No green light on left main gear. So went back and visually checked gear down and locked. Landing normal. On taxi in, ground control said smoke coming from left wheel well. We stopped on taxiway. Called for fire trucks and maintenance. They took gear door off. Ok'ed us to taxi to the gate.
