Narrative:
The new release format was in effect less than a week. Dispatch release indicated no alternate required, so fuel load was based on that. After departure a review of current and forecast WX indicated an alternate was, in fact, required -- therefore, the additional fuel required for an alternate (plus 45 min) was not added. Flight landed at destination without incident. Once there, I called my dispatcher and his response was -- 'oh, I must have missed that -- no big deal.' the flight into greensboro was late, so we were all in a hurry to turn the flight quickly back to dca and try to make up some time. The unfamiliarity of the release format along with the pressure to get back on schedule certainly contributed. The cavalier attitude of my dispatcher in sby did little to inspire any confidence that this might be corrected anytime soon. Supplemental information from acn 301597: we added some additional fuel over planned which did provide us just enough fuel to cover the fuel to a legal alternate.

Title: FAR -- FLC REALIZES AFTER TKOF THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD AN ALTERNATE ARPT LISTED FOR THEIR DEST AND THE FUEL FOR SAME.
Narrative: THE NEW RELEASE FORMAT WAS IN EFFECT LESS THAN A WK. DISPATCH RELEASE INDICATED NO ALTERNATE REQUIRED, SO FUEL LOAD WAS BASED ON THAT. AFTER DEP A REVIEW OF CURRENT AND FORECAST WX INDICATED AN ALTERNATE WAS, IN FACT, REQUIRED -- THEREFORE, THE ADDITIONAL FUEL REQUIRED FOR AN ALTERNATE (PLUS 45 MIN) WAS NOT ADDED. FLT LANDED AT DEST WITHOUT INCIDENT. ONCE THERE, I CALLED MY DISPATCHER AND HIS RESPONSE WAS -- 'OH, I MUST HAVE MISSED THAT -- NO BIG DEAL.' THE FLT INTO GREENSBORO WAS LATE, SO WE WERE ALL IN A HURRY TO TURN THE FLT QUICKLY BACK TO DCA AND TRY TO MAKE UP SOME TIME. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 301597: WE ADDED SOME ADDITIONAL FUEL OVER PLANNED WHICH DID PROVIDE US JUST ENOUGH FUEL TO COVER THE FUEL TO A LEGAL ALTERNATE.
