Narrative:
Copilot accidently dialed in erroneous (wrong) tower frequency and was granted a clearance to land at a nearby airport, not destination airport. Plane landed at airport without proper clearance to land. Both airports had the same magnetic heading runways and both airports were within 10 NM of each other. Both had same identifier on ATIS. Frequency should have been checked more carefully to avoid this error. Proper attention should have been paid to selecting the proper frequency.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: UNAUTH LNDG LNDG CLRNC NOT RECEIVED AT DEST ARPT.
Narrative: COPLT ACCIDENTLY DIALED IN ERRONEOUS (WRONG) TWR FREQ AND WAS GRANTED A CLRNC TO LAND AT A NEARBY ARPT, NOT DEST ARPT. PLANE LANDED AT ARPT WITHOUT PROPER CLRNC TO LAND. BOTH ARPTS HAD THE SAME MAGNETIC HDG RWYS AND BOTH ARPTS WERE WITHIN 10 NM OF EACH OTHER. BOTH HAD SAME IDENTIFIER ON ATIS. FREQ SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHKED MORE CAREFULLY TO AVOID THIS ERROR. PROPER ATTENTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID TO SELECTING THE PROPER FREQ.
