Narrative:
During flight with FAA maintenance inspector on board (seated in cabin) my flight attendants report the inspector is unhappy with my company seat belt sign policy and unhappy with my cabin crew's performance, and that he is in the process of inspecting my flight attendant's manuals, etc. I went to the cabin and ask him to stop his actions. Inspector claims he has the right to do so. A spirited discussion followed and I ultimately ordered him 'to not interfere with the duties of my flight attendants.' inspector wished to continue argument in the cockpit. In view of the spirited discussion above, I feel that the cockpit is no place for such argument and that his presence in the cockpit at this time would compromise safety. I tell him he may not come to cockpit. After about 1 1/2 hours I invite inspector to cockpit for remainder of flight. No further argument or incident.
