Narrative:
In pal-waukee airport I attempted to do a 180 degree turn to back taxi to a taxiway when my right main gear went off the side of the runway and sank in very soft mud. I must have misunderstood tower's instructions to taxi to the end. Perhaps I was a little rattled by my bad landing and thought they (tower) meant the taxiway I had just passed. I didn't realize there was a taxiway at the end of the runway. I was given a choice of runways, runway 6 being the most favorable because of winds, but was shorter, but still very sufficient in length, however, quite narrow. I should have taxied further to one side of the runway before turning or continued to the end as instructed by ATC. I feel that runway 6 in pwk should not be a choice for twins because of obstruction (power lines) right at the end. It should also be notamed that the ground is very soft although it doesn't appear to be.
