Narrative:
The person renting the aircraft presented the aircraft for his instrument lesson which he had scheduled with me. He said that the cylinder head temperature gauge was inoperative and the DME, is intermittent. I said are you sure this aircraft isn't grounded. He said that the FAA had said it was ok to fly like this. Due to the additional installation for cht (gem) the engine monitor, I flew the lesson. On apr/tue/95 I was informed that the aircraft was grounded on the day of my flight. Although I didn't see a grounding sign on it. Because the person furnishing the aircraft was PIC, and renting the aircraft. I didn't see any discrepancies from a discrepancy sheet. I feel the FBO failed to ensure that they didn't rent an aircraft which had been supposedly grounded. I didn't see any evidence of this grounding.
