Narrative:

Inbound to uncontrolled airport, reported field in sight. Approach 'cleared us for the visual, contact advisory frequency, report canceling on this frequency, or on the ground 124.60.' we executed the approach in VMC and after landing, called approach control on 124.60 for our IFR clearance outbound. We were advised they were calling the airport and could not clear other aircraft in until we canceled! In retrospect, we could have canceled when cleared for the visual approach, but waited till after landing. We then called while taxiing into the ramp.
