Narrative:
Air carrier was en route from ont to las on creso 3 arrival. Upon leveloff at FL290, the ride was rough and descent was requested to FL270, about 30 mi west of dag VOR. ZLA cleared us at pilot's discretion to cross jokur at FL240. We found a smooth ride at FL270 and we leveled off. At this time, the captain started a PA to the passenger, and I started the daily engine readings. The captain misread the STAR and I failed to monitor his progress while performing the engine readings, and when we checked in on the new center frequency, we realized that we had just crossed jokur at FL270. Center never mentioned the deviation and then cleared us to cross whigg at 12000 ft. We realized that we would be unable to meet this restr, and requested and were granted relief from this crossing restr. Causes: captain and first officer attempted too many tasks and failed to monitor progress of flight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FLC FAILED TO MAKE 2 XING RESTRS ON THE SAME STAR.
Narrative: ACR WAS ENRTE FROM ONT TO LAS ON CRESO 3 ARR. UPON LEVELOFF AT FL290, THE RIDE WAS ROUGH AND DSCNT WAS REQUESTED TO FL270, ABOUT 30 MI W OF DAG VOR. ZLA CLRED US AT PLT'S DISCRETION TO CROSS JOKUR AT FL240. WE FOUND A SMOOTH RIDE AT FL270 AND WE LEVELED OFF. AT THIS TIME, THE CAPT STARTED A PA TO THE PAX, AND I STARTED THE DAILY ENG READINGS. THE CAPT MISREAD THE STAR AND I FAILED TO MONITOR HIS PROGRESS WHILE PERFORMING THE ENG READINGS, AND WHEN WE CHKED IN ON THE NEW CTR FREQ, WE REALIZED THAT WE HAD JUST CROSSED JOKUR AT FL270. CTR NEVER MENTIONED THE DEV AND THEN CLRED US TO CROSS WHIGG AT 12000 FT. WE REALIZED THAT WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO MEET THIS RESTR, AND REQUESTED AND WERE GRANTED RELIEF FROM THIS XING RESTR. CAUSES: CAPT AND FO ATTEMPTED TOO MANY TASKS AND FAILED TO MONITOR PROGRESS OF FLT.
