Narrative:
We were given a climb crossing restr to cross fir intersection at FL330. I was talking to company on the other radio, and didn't pay complete attention to the ATC request. I 'assumed' the first officer was capable of determining if we could make the restr utilizing the performance information in the FMC. We were close but missed reaching the altitude by 600 ft at the intersection. Next time I will provide more input, and evaluate the first officer's decisions before accepting ATC restrs.
