Narrative:
Captain programmed FMC before flight. Selected sayge 1 arrival, but neglected to select lbf transition. Apparently first officer did not confirm route. Aircraft was in LNAV and, upon reaching lbf, started direct sayge. About 30-40 mi west of lbf, ATC queried flight about route. I acknowledged mistake, ATC cleared us direct to an intersection on the arrival, no conflict apparent.

ACFT WAS IN LNAV AND, UPON REACHING LBF, STARTED DIRECT SAYGE. ABOUT 30-40 MI W OF LBF, ATC QUERIED FLT ABOUT RTE.
