Narrative:
Left sgh under dayton departure to 5500 ft, was handed off to cmh. Had to climb immediately to 8500 ft to remain VFR. Radios were busy. Cmh came back to ask my altitude. 8500 ft he stated. He took me over from dayton at 5500 ft. I explained reason for change and no traffic.

Title: PLT OF AN SMA SEL CLBED TO ANOTHER ALT DURING WX AVOIDANCE RESULTING IN BEING AT THE WRONG ALT FOR THE ACFT HDG.
Narrative: LEFT SGH UNDER DAYTON DEP TO 5500 FT, WAS HANDED OFF TO CMH. HAD TO CLB IMMEDIATELY TO 8500 FT TO REMAIN VFR. RADIOS WERE BUSY. CMH CAME BACK TO ASK MY ALT. 8500 FT HE STATED. HE TOOK ME OVER FROM DAYTON AT 5500 FT. I EXPLAINED REASON FOR CHANGE AND NO TFC.
