Narrative:
Dispatch attempted to contact flight as per FAA request. Commercial radio frequency was selected to 130.2. SELCAL failed to function. Center advised that company wanted to talk with aircraft. We contacted commercial radio and they arranged phone patch for message. After the phone patch we had commercial radio SELCAL us and the SELCAL was completely inoperative. Log entry was made, we then switched center to #2 radio and commercial radio to #1 radio. SELCAL worked on #1 radio. We continued in this confign. Because of the need to reverse radio procedures the #2 radio was (later) accidently switched from center frequency. When we returned to center there was no problem. Commercial radio frequency was changed to next sector 131.65. During descent at 65 mi from destination center advised that dispatch was attempting to call us. The #1 radio was being used by so to obtain ATIS, gate information, and passenger service. SELCAL was not available during this period of time. Although we were not available to dispatch we were following proper procedures and were unavailable because of radio failure and performance of other required procedures.

Narrative: DISPATCH ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT FLT AS PER FAA REQUEST. COMMERCIAL RADIO FREQ WAS SELECTED TO 130.2. SELCAL FAILED TO FUNCTION. CTR ADVISED THAT COMPANY WANTED TO TALK WITH ACFT. WE CONTACTED COMMERCIAL RADIO AND THEY ARRANGED PHONE PATCH FOR MESSAGE. AFTER THE PHONE PATCH WE HAD COMMERCIAL RADIO SELCAL US AND THE SELCAL WAS COMPLETELY INOP. LOG ENTRY WAS MADE, WE THEN SWITCHED CTR TO #2 RADIO AND COMMERCIAL RADIO TO #1 RADIO. SELCAL WORKED ON #1 RADIO. WE CONTINUED IN THIS CONFIGN. BECAUSE OF THE NEED TO REVERSE RADIO PROCS THE #2 RADIO WAS (LATER) ACCIDENTLY SWITCHED FROM CTR FREQ. WHEN WE RETURNED TO CTR THERE WAS NO PROB. COMMERCIAL RADIO FREQ WAS CHANGED TO NEXT SECTOR 131.65. DURING DSCNT AT 65 MI FROM DEST CTR ADVISED THAT DISPATCH WAS ATTEMPTING TO CALL US. THE #1 RADIO WAS BEING USED BY SO TO OBTAIN ATIS, GATE INFO, AND PAX SVC. SELCAL WAS NOT AVAILABLE DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME. ALTHOUGH WE WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO DISPATCH WE WERE FOLLOWING PROPER PROCS AND WERE UNAVAILABLE BECAUSE OF RADIO FAILURE AND PERFORMANCE OF OTHER REQUIRED PROCS.
