Exercise capts emergency authority/authorized reference thunderstorm. Northbound A554, 25 NM south tallo at XA30Z requested a deviation 20 east of course due WX. After approximately 10 mins, told new york oceanic exercising captain's emergency authority/authorized, deviated up to 20 east of course reference WX. New york responded immediately with 'ATC clears air carrier flight to deviate up to 20 east for WX.' I advised disregard emergency authority/authorized declaration and did not call on 121.5 due receiving clearance.
