Narrative:
While climbing on autoplt 10 NM north of iiu, I engaged level off mode at FL270. Climb rate was approximately 800-1000 FPM. Autoplt overshot altitude by 200-250 ft. At this time we got a TCASII 'RA' from a sbound dc-9 at FL280 (2 O'clock and approximately 5-6 NM). I complied with TCASII 'RA' and leveled off at FL270. The last min engaging of level off mode at this climb rate was the most significant contributing factor. Supplemental information from acn 309754: the other aircraft acquired a RA and started his climb to avoid conflict. The other aircraft climbed to FL290 before the RA ended.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OVERSHOOTS ALT 300 FT. RESPONDS TO TCASII.
Narrative: WHILE CLBING ON AUTOPLT 10 NM N OF IIU, I ENGAGED LEVEL OFF MODE AT FL270. CLB RATE WAS APPROX 800-1000 FPM. AUTOPLT OVERSHOT ALT BY 200-250 FT. AT THIS TIME WE GOT A TCASII 'RA' FROM A SBOUND DC-9 AT FL280 (2 O'CLOCK AND APPROX 5-6 NM). I COMPLIED WITH TCASII 'RA' AND LEVELED OFF AT FL270. THE LAST MIN ENGAGING OF LEVEL OFF MODE AT THIS CLB RATE WAS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 309754: THE OTHER ACFT ACQUIRED A RA AND STARTED HIS CLB TO AVOID CONFLICT. THE OTHER ACFT CLBED TO FL290 BEFORE THE RA ENDED.
