Narrative:
On our trip from denver to grand junction we had a drift down route we were flying. We had to cross the red table VOR 062 degree radial at 16 mi at FL240. Prior to the restr center called and told us to descend to FL220. We told center we were unable because of our drift down restr. He then told us to turn right 90 degrees. We again told center unable because we have to stay within 5 mi of centerline. He then asked if we were declaring an emergency. We said no. He responded by telling us to turn right 90 degrees. We told him again, unable because of drift down. He asked again are you declaring an emergency, we said no. He told us again turn right 90 degrees. At this time we turned right 90 degrees. We were able to stay within our 5 mi of centerline. After traffic passed he cleared us on course. There was no conflict with the other traffic. The traffic was a dc-10 they wanted to top us with. We would like to know why the dc-10 could not turn left so we could stay on our drift down route.

Narrative: ON OUR TRIP FROM DENVER TO GRAND JUNCTION WE HAD A DRIFT DOWN RTE WE WERE FLYING. WE HAD TO CROSS THE RED TABLE VOR 062 DEG RADIAL AT 16 MI AT FL240. PRIOR TO THE RESTR CTR CALLED AND TOLD US TO DSND TO FL220. WE TOLD CTR WE WERE UNABLE BECAUSE OF OUR DRIFT DOWN RESTR. HE THEN TOLD US TO TURN R 90 DEGS. WE AGAIN TOLD CTR UNABLE BECAUSE WE HAVE TO STAY WITHIN 5 MI OF CTRLINE. HE THEN ASKED IF WE WERE DECLARING AN EMER. WE SAID NO. HE RESPONDED BY TELLING US TO TURN R 90 DEGS. WE TOLD HIM AGAIN, UNABLE BECAUSE OF DRIFT DOWN. HE ASKED AGAIN ARE YOU DECLARING AN EMER, WE SAID NO. HE TOLD US AGAIN TURN R 90 DEGS. AT THIS TIME WE TURNED R 90 DEGS. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE DC-10 COULD NOT TURN L SO WE COULD STAY ON OUR DRIFT DOWN RTE.
