Narrative:
Left aircraft pack made loud sudden noise and was turned off climbing through FL310. Pressurization normal and continued climb. Passing FL320 noticed a grinding noise from left pack area. Descended to FL310 then decided to divert to clt because of noise. Landed 4000 pounds overweight. I did not declare emergency.

Narrative: L ACFT PACK MADE LOUD SUDDEN NOISE AND WAS TURNED OFF CLBING THROUGH FL310. PRESSURIZATION NORMAL AND CONTINUED CLB. PASSING FL320 NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE FROM L PACK AREA. DSNDED TO FL310 THEN DECIDED TO DIVERT TO CLT BECAUSE OF NOISE. LANDED 4000 LBS OVERWT. I DID NOT DECLARE EMER.
