Narrative:
Inbound to abe, ZNY said a thunderstorm was over abe and we requested to hold to the west about 30 NM to see if the thunderstorm would move to the east. After 2 or 3 aircraft landed on runway 24, another airline's fokker 100 said he would not recommend anyone else landing right then. We talked to abe tower and our operations to find out actual field conditions. We were then offered a vector to the south of the field for a landing on runway 6. Our radar showed the thunderstorm had moved northeast of the field as we turned about a 15 mi final on the ILS. We sighted the runway approximately 8 mi out with very light rain, but with lightning all around. We landed on runway 6 and stopped with no problem. We were informed the following afternoon that the other air carrier aircraft had hit some runway edge lights and had had to have 2 main tires changed. On our final approach, we experienced no wind shear and only very light chop.
