Narrative:

Level flight at 1700 ft MSL, sudden loss of power. Engine remained running, not responsive to throttle. Best glide speed established, checked: master switch on, magnetos both on, fuel on, carburetor heat on, mixture rich. Engine still did not respond to throttle. Arb control tower advised current wind from 180 degrees, emergency equipment alerted. Field idented plowed north to south. 30 degrees flaps deployed, landing in field uneventful. No damage to airplane, no injuries to passenger. On ground arb control tower advised safe landing, cancel equipment. FAA notified, mechanic took photos and idented no problems with aircraft, mechanic started and ran aircraft on ground. Cause of power loss not idented, suspected carburetor ice or vapor lock or other heat and humidity related problem. Outside air temperature 85 degrees F, relative humidity approximately 70 percent.

Title: OFF ARPT LNDG -- PLT LOSES PWR AND WHILE THE ENG DOES NOT QUIT HE IS FORCED TO LAND SHORT OF THE ARPT.

Narrative: LEVEL FLT AT 1700 FT MSL, SUDDEN LOSS OF PWR. ENG REMAINED RUNNING, NOT RESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE. BEST GLIDE SPD ESTABLISHED, CHKED: MASTER SWITCH ON, MAGNETOS BOTH ON, FUEL ON, CARB HEAT ON, MIXTURE RICH. ENG STILL DID NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE. ARB CTL TWR ADVISED CURRENT WIND FROM 180 DEGS, EMER EQUIP ALERTED. FIELD IDENTED PLOWED N TO S. 30 DEGS FLAPS DEPLOYED, LNDG IN FIELD UNEVENTFUL. NO DAMAGE TO AIRPLANE, NO INJURIES TO PAX. ON GND ARB CTL TWR ADVISED SAFE LNDG, CANCEL EQUIP. FAA NOTIFIED, MECH TOOK PHOTOS AND IDENTED NO PROBS WITH ACFT, MECH STARTED AND RAN ACFT ON GND. CAUSE OF PWR LOSS NOT IDENTED, SUSPECTED CARB ICE OR VAPOR LOCK OR OTHER HEAT AND HUMIDITY RELATED PROB. OUTSIDE AIR TEMP 85 DEGS F, RELATIVE HUMIDITY APPROX 70 PERCENT.
