Narrative:

On the eastside 1 arrival at sna just prior to snake intersection we got an RA on the TCASII with a command to climb. I immediately started to climb at the commanded rate of about 2000 FPM. As we were in the climb of about 300 ft at 2000 FPM, looking for the traffic and trying to get a break in radio traffic to notify approach control, the controller told us that if we had an RA, we needed to tell them. By that time (approximately 10 seconds from initial RA) we were clear of conflict. We returned to the approach path and landed uneventfully. Supplemental information from acn 313622: approaching vicinity of snake intersection on FMS eastside arrival got TA for traffic. ATC advised traffic position. TA became RA. We climbed from approximately 3600 ft MSL to 3900 ft MSL. Problem arose by having VFR traffic in air carrier approach airspace. Recommend this airspace to be positively controled.

Title: B757 FLC RESPONDED TO TCASII RA DURING DSCNT APCH PHASE. CTLR QUERIED THE FLC'S NON-COM.

Narrative: ON THE EASTSIDE 1 ARR AT SNA JUST PRIOR TO SNAKE INTXN WE GOT AN RA ON THE TCASII WITH A COMMAND TO CLB. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO CLB AT THE COMMANDED RATE OF ABOUT 2000 FPM. AS WE WERE IN THE CLB OF ABOUT 300 FT AT 2000 FPM, LOOKING FOR THE TFC AND TRYING TO GET A BREAK IN RADIO TFC TO NOTIFY APCH CTL, THE CTLR TOLD US THAT IF WE HAD AN RA, WE NEEDED TO TELL THEM. BY THAT TIME (APPROX 10 SECONDS FROM INITIAL RA) WE WERE CLR OF CONFLICT. WE RETURNED TO THE APCH PATH AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 313622: APCHING VICINITY OF SNAKE INTXN ON FMS EASTSIDE ARR GOT TA FOR TFC. ATC ADVISED TFC POS. TA BECAME RA. WE CLBED FROM APPROX 3600 FT MSL TO 3900 FT MSL. PROB AROSE BY HAVING VFR TFC IN ACR APCH AIRSPACE. RECOMMEND THIS AIRSPACE TO BE POSITIVELY CTLED.
